Why Mattress Discounters Costco and CVS Are Making Mattress Costs More Expensive

Costco and other retailers are starting to raise prices on mattresses and bedding.

But they are doing so with a price tag.

The cost of a mattress, which can run anywhere from $400 to $2,000, has increased by more than 60 percent in the past year, according to the mattress retail group, CoreLogic.

Mattress companies say the rise in the cost of their products, along with a new generation of cheaper mattresses, are a result of increased competition from online retailers.

In a statement to CNBC, Costco said that its online pricing “continues to be the most competitive price in the industry.”
